Throwing it way back to 1965 and the roots of Central Coast Wahine. It all started with a clean-cut surfer boy born and raised near iconic Redondo Beach, CA. My grandfather loved the ocean. He owned a power boat that he docked in the nearby harbor. As a young teen, my dad would take my grandfather’s boat out every chance he had. He fell in love with the ocean and would spend hours at sea. At some point, my dad acquired a small, old sailboat that he fixed up. True to my dad’s adventurous nature, he would sail miles and miles out to sea. It didn’t take long before my dad became obsessed with surfing. He attended South High in Torrance, and during this time, ditched class so many times to surf (kids, don’t ditch school to surf), he had to spend the summer after his senior year making up a P.E class to get his high school diploma. He surfed mostly from Redondo to Manhattan Beach and would spend summers surfing up and down the California coast and into Baja, Mexico. He married my mom, graduated from law school, and relocated to the Central Coast of CA. He had four children. Growing up, we spent many, many weekends at the beach with surfboards and skim boards. Watching my dad surf inspired me, there was nothing I wanted more than to be a surfer. Some of my most cherished memories are surfing with my dad at C-Street and Rincon in Ventura, Studio Dr. in Cayucos, and of course “The Pit” in Morro Bay. He passed every ocean, surf loving gene right down to me………It’s in my DNA. — David Charles Peterson Nov 21, 1948 - Oct 2, 2017. Surf on, Dad.
